On occasion, there is nothing better than some hot tropical sun to make you appreciate your buying group.

No, really. Just ask the roughly 40 people who traveled to Costa Rica in March as part of a Tempur+Sealy incentive trip.

The trip was offered to all the BrandSource member dealers in the Tempur+Sealy channel, and those that had the biggest dollar increase over the previous year got to attend. In total, about 45 people went on the trip.

Unlike most other BrandSource events, which are education-driven and designed to provoke change and growth among participants, this trip was purely for pleasure. That doesn’t mean there wasn’t any work being done, however.

Paula Higginbotham, key account manager for Tempur+Sealy, said she heard plenty of attendees talking business and throwing ideas around.

“Over and over again, I heard brainstorming ideas from one member to another on ideas to grow their business,” she said.

That was between excursions, however. The BrandSource group did everything tourists in Costa Rica should: a sunset cruise on a catamaran, ziplining, a few even spent a day touring the rainforest.

A big highlight was the monkey bar, which is exactly what it sounds like: a bar surrounded by trees filled with wild monkeys.

Mike Allen, vice president of furniture for BrandSource, said the trip was a success by any measure and just one more way to show appreciation and encouragement to members.

“It’s a way to reward people for their support,” he said. “We did have some group functions but it was just a chance for the dealers to relax and socialize with other dealers. Everybody had a really nice time.”
